Newcastle Pride paused last Friday night to remember our lost, but definitely not forgotten, Trans brothers and sisters on Trans Remembrance Day.
The Vigil was hosted by our friends over at the Hunter Gender Alliance, and was attended by members of the community, along with the State MP for Newcastle Tim Crakanthorp, and Federal MP for Newcastle Sharon Claydon. Those gathered listened to examples of violence against Trans folk and the importance of the day in raising awareness of Trans rights. At the conclusion of the Vigil, the group gathered in Civic Park lit candles under a nearby tree to remember those who are no longer with us.
Newcastle Pride was well represented with Committee Members; Lee-Anne McDougall, Hellen Richards, Jay Bellamy and Tory Curran attending the event.
Trans rights are human rights.
