On Saturday the 14th of September, Hunter Gender Alliance hosted their first Conference- Our lives, a Gender Diversity Conference, at the University of Newcastle. The conference advocated for the health, rights and well-being of the trans, non-binary and gender diverse communities of the Hunter. The conference was packed with over 170 participants, including delegates from Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra. The day was a series of talks, panels and workshops centring around trans health, community, ageing, kids and youth and resilience. Newcastle Pride was there to support the event, with vice-president Ivan Skaines chairing a very successful panel on community perspectives, and committee members Geoff MacFarlane and Jay Bellamy hosting a stall for Newcastle Pride, providing information about Newcastle Pride, membership and merchandise. Overall, the event was a huge success and it was wonderful to see such a strong, vibrant and progressive trans community in Newcastle. Congratulations to the organisers, Hunter Gender Alliance, for an excellent event.
