Newcastle Pride and Queer & Now brought together members of the Newcastle LGBTIQA+ community to celebrate the start of

2023 Sydney World Pride in Newcastle. The 78er’s led the parade as we sashayed along the Honeysuckle boardwalk. This once in a life time parade was a colourful outdoor parade celebrating LGBTIQA+ culture, diversity and equality. The community turning out as truest version of themselves, creative and colourful we painted the Newcastle foreshore with a sea of pride ! It was great to see Helen (78er’s), ACON team, Tim Crakanthorp MP and team, Deputy Lord Mayor Declan Clausen join us and celebrate.

Thanks to our sponsor The Albion Hotel | Wickham & photographer Glen Scarborough from ISpy photography Newcastle. Coles Thornton for snacks & water, but our biggest thanks go out to you!

The Community ... YOU’RE FABULOUS!

"In a very special moment this morning, I presented Lee-Anne McDougall from Newcastle Pride Inc with a NSW Government Community Service Award.

For over two decades Lee-Anne has volunteered in advocacy for LGBTQIA+ people, which ultimately saw her found Newcastle Pride in 2018.

Under her leadership and with the help of her fantastic team the organisation has gone from strength to strength, and the group has become highly regarded for its advocacy, work to create safe spaces and its inclusion of intersectional communities and allies.

Lee-Anne and Newcastle Pride have contributed enormously to the diversity and vibrancy of our city, and Lee-Anne’s commitment and passion shines through in everything she does.

Congratulations, Lee-Anne!"
