Accessible, welcoming and community-led
We recognise that accessibility is not one-size-fits-all. People may need information or support relating to mobility, transport, toilets, seating, sensory environments, communication, online information, event arrival, emergency procedures, carer access, visibility, safety or the way information is provided.
This page brings key access information together so people can connect with Newcastle Pride in a way that feels more informed, comfortable and supported.
Our approach to accessibility
Newcastle Pride aims to make access information easier to find, understand and use. We consider accessibility when planning public events, developing website content, sharing community information, supporting volunteers, responding to enquiries and improving future activities.
We also welcome feedback from community members and partners so our approach can continue to improve over time.
Clear information
We aim to share practical access details before events and activities, including location, timing, facilities, transport options and support points where available.
Inclusive communication
We aim to use plain, respectful and welcoming language across our website, social media, emails and event materials.
Supportive event environments
We consider access needs such as amenities, water, signage, volunteer support, safety information, first aid and accessible arrival information.
Community feedback
We invite feedback from attendees, volunteers, performers, stallholders, carers, support workers and community members to help us identify access barriers and improve future planning.
Ongoing improvement
Accessibility is an ongoing commitment. We will continue reviewing how information is presented and how people experience Newcastle Pride activities.
Access information for events and activities
Newcastle Pride runs and supports a range of community events, festival activities and engagement opportunities throughout the year. Access information may vary depending on the venue, activity type, crowd size, facilities, outdoor conditions and event format.
Where possible, event pages will include relevant access details such as arrival information, toilet and amenity information, public transport or parking notes, support contacts, event timing, sensory considerations and what to do if assistance is needed on the day.
For larger events such as Fair Day, Newcastle Pride may publish more detailed access information closer to the event date once the final site layout, facilities and logistics are confirmed. Visitors are encouraged to check the relevant event page before attending and contact Newcastle Pride if they need specific access information ahead of time.
Website accessibility
Newcastle Pride aims to make newcastlepride.com.au useful, readable and welcoming for the community. We aim to use clear headings, meaningful page titles, readable content, descriptive links, accessible language and practical information that supports people to find what they need.
If you experience an issue using the website or cannot access information in the format you need, please contact us so we can assist and improve the page.
Need information in another format?
If you need information in another format, have an access question, or would like to discuss your needs before attending a Newcastle Pride activity, please contact Newcastle Pride through the website contact page or email
admin@newcastlepride.com.au.
Where possible, please contact the team in advance so we can provide the most current information.
Help us keep improving
Newcastle Pride welcomes accessibility feedback before, during and after events, as well as feedback about the website, communications and community information.
Feedback from community members, families, carers, support workers, volunteers, performers, stallholders and visitors helps us improve how we share information, plan activities, support participation and remove barriers where possible.
